Guava BBQ Back Ribs with Jeanie Spice Rub (Egyptian Queen) Get it on my Etsy Shop

I make these ribs all the time and they are always a favorite. I jazzed up the Barbecue sauce with some guava paste.  For those who are not familiar with this ingredient here is the skinny on it.  Guava is a tropical fruit with a citrusy, sweet with some strawberry and peach notes.    I have found it here in the Spanish and Latin grocery stores and it is sold as a paste.

Guava BBQ Baby Back Ribs

Serves 4-6

Ingredients:

3lbs of Baby back Ribs
2 tablespoons of Egyptian Queen Rub
3-4 cups of chicken stock or water
1/2 cup of guava paste or fig preserves or apricot
1/2 cup of your favorite Barbecue Sauce

Preparation:

Rub the spices on the ribs and let it sit for about 30 minutes.  In a heavy bottom stock pot big enough to fit the ribs add the stock or water and add the ribs.  Braise covered for about 1.5 hours make sure your pot does not dry up of stock or water so check it every 30 min.  Preheat oven to 375 and take out the ribs from the pot and place in a sheet pan brush them with the Guava barbecue sauce and bake for about 25 min

For the sauce:

In a sauce pan at low-med heat add the 1/2 cup of the guava paste and 1/2 cup of BBQ sauce let it cook until the guava paste melts stir and done.  Enjoy it!
